Barak Berman
Barak Berman is Senior Vice President, Deputy General Counsel and Assistant Corporate Secretary for Ventas. With nearly two decades of experience structuring and executing on a diverse array of complex transactions, Berman and his team act as legal counsel with respect to the Company’s investments, divestitures, joint ventures, leasing and commercial transactions, development activities and asset management matters. Berman and his team also advise on all secured financing transactions for the Company.
Berman serves as a key advisor to Ventas’s senior leadership with respect to some of the Company’s most significant transactions and business activities. He has particular expertise in navigating complex financial structures, restructurings and workouts. During his tenure at Ventas, Berman has played a leadership role in over $30 billion in investment activity, including the tax-free spin-off of Care Capital Properties (NYSE: CCP), the $2.3 billion acquisition of New Senior Investment Group, Inc. (NYSE: SNR) and Ventas’s entry into and subsequent growth of its 10+ million square foot research portfolio. Most recently, Berman and his team led in the execution of more than $2 billion of closed and under contract investment and divestiture activity in 2024, primarily focused on senior housing.
Berman supports the Company’s Board of Directors, including its Investment Committee. He also leads the Company’s litigation, regulatory and entity management functions.
Prior to joining Ventas in 2012, Berman practiced at the law firms of McDermott Will & Emery and Winston & Strawn LLP, where he gained substantial experience in a wide range of real estate transactional, financing and mergers & acquisition matters.
Berman is admitted to the Bar in Illinois. He holds a B.A. in Computer Science from Illinois Wesleyan University, cum laude, and a J.D. from the University of Illinois College of Law, Magna Cum Laude – Order of the Coif.
